Let Freedom Ring....

On February 29, 2000, I stood up for myself against my girlfriend. While many things were conflicting, she said it was either her and her cats, or following my goal of wanting to be a hard-working U.S. Marshal. Needless to say, I sure am not going to miss her as much as I would have missed my future possible work.

She brought it on herself, I was perfectly happy, until she seemed to think I needed to be in Craig, Colorado every weekend (there are plenty of things I have to say about Craig, see this website). She wasn't very strong to handle the long-distance relationship. I got tired of listening to her bitch all the time. Towards the fall of the relationship, that was all I was hearing, nothing good, all bad. So on the 29th of February 2000, she tried to play a game of chicken with me. Needless to say she lost. The last of the dialogue went something like this:

J: "Do you want this to be over?"

D: "Yes"

J: "So we are through?"

D: "Yes"

I would have liked to do it more personally, but she asked and I delivered. Had I done it in person, I might not be here today typing. Now that I am free, I am out enjoying the real "date" again. I don't have to drive 218 miles to visit her, or have to compete with cats for a place to sleep. in the 15 months I dated her/visited her, I traveled over 5000 miles back and forth to see her. Those were miles on my vehicles. She traveled... 0 miles. Then she wanted me to do more little things to show her I loved her. The many trips through good and bad weather wasn't enough. She wanted me to send more e-mails, more letters, and see her more.

Her jealousy problem was bad. I had a female friend, Tiffani, it was really not much more than that to Jolene. I went snowshoeing with her once and visited her at college a couple of times. Was that alright with Jolene? Hardly. Yet it was alright for her to go out with her male friends and wrong for me to say anything. Well, now she has all the time in the world to enjoy her friends.

In the end it all boils down to one thing: I am better off without her!
